Sleep Apnea Solutions
More Than Just a Bad Night’s Sleep
Snoring is often joked about, but it can be a sign of a more serious condition called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This occurs when your airway collapses during sleep, blocking oxygen and causing you to wake up hundreds of times a night without realizing it. At Spray Lake Dental, we understand that quality sleep is the foundation of your overall health. If you or your partner are tired of loud snoring and constant fatigue, we offer simple, non-invasive dental solutions to help you breathe easier and sleep deeper.
A Comfortable Alternative to CPAP
Many patients dread the idea of a bulky CPAP machine and mask. Fortunately, for mild to moderate sleep apnea, there is a streamlined alternative.
Oral Appliance Therapy involves a custom-fitted dental device, similar to a sports mouthguard, that you wear only while you sleep. It gently positions your jaw forward to keep your airway open naturally.

Sleep Apnea & Snoring FAQs
We know you might have questions about your visit, and we believe clarity is key to comfort. Whether you’re curious about insurance or what happens during an exam, our team is here to help you feel fully prepared for your appointment.
How do I know if I have sleep apnea or just snoring?
Snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea. Other common symptoms include daytime tiredness, occasional morning headaches, high blood pressure, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, memory problems, and depression, among others. The only way to determine if snoring is a concern is to undergo a sleep study.
Can a dental appliance really replace my CPAP machine?
For patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a custom oral appliance is often just as effective as a CPAP machine. It is also the recommended treatment for patients with severe apnea who simply cannot tolerate the CPAP mask (CPAP intolerance). We work with your sleep doctor to ensure the appliance is treating your condition effectively.
Is the oral appliance comfortable to sleep with?
Yes, most patients adjust to it very quickly, usually within a week or two. Unlike store-bought “boil and bite” guards, our appliances are custom-made from precise digital scans of your teeth. They are slim, adjustable, and designed specifically for your mouth, minimizing jaw tension and bulkiness.
Does insurance cover oral appliance therapy?
Many private insurance plans include coverage for sleep apnea appliances under “medical devices” or “dental appliances” because they treat a medical condition. Our administrative team is experienced in handling these specific claims. We can send a pre-determination to your provider to confirm your coverage amount before you commit to treatment.
How long does the appliance last?
With proper care and cleaning, a high-quality custom sleep appliance typically lasts between 3 to 5 years. We check the fit and condition of your device at your regular dental hygiene exams to ensure it is still functioning correctly. If your teeth change or the device wears out, we can coordinate a replacement or adjustment.
